Members of Reading Chapter, Order of DeMolay, pitched
in to help clean up trash along a busy stretch of highway in Berks
County, while also helping one of its own.
A group of members led by Master Councilor Jeffrey Bortz
and Senior Councilor Stephan Fizz helped pick up debris
along Route 82 in Birdsboro on Saturday March 18th as part of the
group's annual community service project. The other participants
were Erik Gaul, Jay Hinnershitz and Ryan Matetich.
Not only did the boys clean the area along the road, they helped
a local business owner tidy up around his property because he physically
couldn't do it himself. That local business owner just happens to
be the Chapter's Advisory Council Chairman Keith Bortz, Sr.,
who recently broke his arm.
The boys spent about two hours taking part in the spring cleaning
event.
The boys didn't just find trash - they found a couple of old televisions,
three mattresses, and bedroom furniture!
