Reading Chapter, Order of DeMolay, recognized the
outstanding achievements of some of its own during the organization's
76th Annual Awards Banquet held on Saturday
March 25th at Union Lodge in Birdsboro.
Dozens gathered to enjoy a full-course dinner and to take home
some much-deserved trophies.
Master Councilor Jeffrey Bortz took home the trophy
for Outstanding DeMolay of the Year as well as for
Outstanding Ritual. The Neophyte Trophy for
best rookie member is actually being shared by two young men this
year: Kody Blouch and Ryan Matetich. "Brother"
Blouch also received the Spirit Trophy and the Number
One Pin for sponsoring his first new member. Alexander
Fizz received the Petitions Trophy for bringing
in the most new members in the competition year. Numerous merit
bars were handed out to those who took part in various activities
during the course of the year. And those members who took part in
CHIP (Child Identification Program) received certificates in recognition
of their volunteer work.
And if that wasn't enough, the members of the chapter recognized
two outstanding advisors for their efforts during the year: "Mom"
Joy Bortz and "Dad" Bortz, Sr.
Along with various DeMolays receiving awards, the Chapter also crowned
a new Chapter Sweetheart. Brittany Bortz was crowned
Chapter Sweetheart of Reading Chapter for 2006-2007.
She got her crown and sash from her sister, Krista (Past
Chapter Sweetheart) and brother, Jeff (Master Councilor) but in
addition to that she also received a hat from the Master Councilor
(Jeff Bortz) and Junior Councilor (Josh Bibbus).
This hat made her their "Mafia Princess" ... so not only
was Brittany crowned but she was also "capped."
Congratulations to all of this year's winners
you certainly deserve the recognition!
