It happens every fall and spring. It started long before many of the Pilgrim Advisors were young DeMolays. Peanut Brittle making at Pilgrim Chapter is a time that members, Advisors, friends, parents and anyone that is willing to help joins together for the purpose of creating a delicious candy to help raise money for the Chapter.
But what happens is magic. Everyone has a job, everyone works hard: ingredients measured, pots stirred until the mix is just the right color, “Dad” Harms commands the ship demanding pans to receive the hot mix, “Mom” Chubb makes sure we have all the ingredients, “Dad” Knapp makes us laugh. The recipe has been handed down from past Advisors. It may be written down, but I have never seen it.
The day is long, we are tired, but at the end we have all laughed out loud many times and, by the way, made some great Peanut Brittle.
