In Sept. 2006 the members of Freedom Chapter
had the pleasure of meeting a 15 year old exchange student by the
name of Ihab Masri who was staying here
in the U.S. with the family of Freedom Chapter
members Tyler and Justin Berwanger.
Tyler and Justin quickly invited Ihab to participate in DeMolay
activities. Ihab participated in park clean-ups, going to
the PA Masonic Youth Foundation to help prepare CHIP kits, and worked
at CHIP events. By the end of October Ihab wanted to join
DeMolay. After obtaining the approval of his parents
back home, Ihab was obligated in late October and received
his Degrees at the Samuel C. Williamson Class in
Dec. 2007. Brother Ihab has not looked back since. He
has made the most of his time here in the United States. He has
attended several DeMolay events, visited several Chapters,
dances, participated in three State Induction Classes, Co-Ed
Flag Football, learned the obligation, completed 4 of the 5 LCC's,
filled in for Junior Steward, Senior Steward, Chaplain, "The
Candidate" for lodge exemplifications, and served as Chapter
Scribe for the past 6 months.
May 27th, 2007 was Ihab's last "formal"
meeting with Freedom Chapter before returning
home on June 10th. At the meeting, the Master Councilor,
Brother Robert Walkling turned the gavel
over to Ihab to conduct the business portion of the meeting.
Ihab conducted the meeting without hesitation and did a fine job.
After returning the gavel to Bro. Walkling,
Ihab circled the Chapter Room shaking hands and saying farewell
to members and visitors. Robert Walkling then proclaimed May
27th, 2007 "Ihab Day"
at Freedom Chapter. After closing and Chapter photos,
the members retired for refreshments.
The presence of Ihab in this Chapter has totally enriched the DeMolay experience for all the members and advisors of the Chapter. Ihab will be missed and we look forward to promised future visits by Ihab who will be concluding his time with us by attending the Eastern Masonic Family Picnic at Dorney Park on June 9th. If you plan on attending this event, please take the time greet and say farewell to Brother Ihab Masri.
