Annual Conference Makes More Than Usual Splash!

Weren't at Key Man? What a shame, 'cause boy was it good this year! This year we had a total of 155 people attending Key Man, and the cool thing is that 86 of them (including Key Men, Jurisdictional Officers, Advisors, and Staff) were from PA! Other participants came from as far away as Oklahoma, Tennessee, California, and Alberta and Ontario, Canada.

This year was filled with many memories and changes. Not least among the great changes was the introduction of Youth Directors: Michael Brown and me (Tom Moyer), as the Youth Director and Assistant. Mike did an awesome job. (Webmaster note: So did Tom!)

The week started with a very energetic opening introducing all of the staff and "LT" (Letters Temporary) Conference Chapters for the week. That night Chapters chose their names, which were Infinity, Knights, Next Generation, John Wayne, Semper Fidelis, Canerica, and Spartans.

Through the week, everyone developed brotherhood within their Chapters and the other Chapters there. Members developed "term plans" for the week which included at least one athletic event per day, one civic service event, one Masonic service event, and one social event per day. Chapters elected officers and opened and closed meetings in ritual form, operating just like a real local Chapter as they learned the leadership lessons of the week.

Key Men also served the Masonic Family with presentations and a "casino" party at the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown.

One of the best parts in most Key Men's minds was Tuesday's prospect party at Adventure Sports, with go-carts, bumper boats, mini golf, batting cages, and an arcade full of games. The prospect party then led to the Friday night Induction of 8 new members for PA DeMolay, and 3 new members for Delaware DeMolay. The Induction teams worked hard all week, and performed very well.

Following the Induction was a swimming party for all, and a challenge that had been boiling all week: 14 JO's (Jurisdictional Officers) vs. 60 Key Men in dodgeball. The game was called due to time constraints, but the final score was JO's 2 games and Key Men 2 Games.

Saturday's closing session was a slide show that showed some of the best memories from the week. If you haven't had the Key Man experience, you're missing out! Plan now to get in on it next summer!
