2008 Patriots Class Recap

If you would not be forgotten
As soon as you are dead and rotten,
Either write things worthy reading,
Or do things worth the writing.”

~ Benjamin Franklin

February 9th truly gave Pennsylvania DeMolay something worth writing as the Scottish Rite Valley of Reading hosted the second annual Pennsylvania DeMolay Patriots Class, and the historical guest of the day - Founding Father Benjamin Franklin – was pleased by what he experienced!

Joining Ben Franklin to welcome the new members – Jeffrey Hample from Northeast Chapter and Tyler Parsons from Reading Chapter – were L. Donald Loos, Commander in Chief of Reading Consistory, Edward R. Stein, District Deputy Grand Master for the 7th Masonic District, and a number of officers and past officers of the Valley of Reading.

The Induction Ceremonies for the day were performed by DeMolays from Chapters all across Pennsylvania:  Chester Pike, Elizabethtown, Freedom, Friendship-Bray, Lancaster Phoenix, Northeast, Pilgrim, Reading and Steel City.  Deputy State Master Councilor Jeffrey Bortz was the Event Chairmen who organized the degree teams and planned the day that was brought to an end with an “Armed Services Dance” that was attended by the DeMolays, Job’s Daughters and Rainbow Girls.

Also as a part of the Class, Pennsylvania DeMolay held the first of two scheduled DeMolay International Public Speaking Contests under the direction of “Dad” James and “Mom” Joan Ray.  Competitors were Jordan Specht, in the Junior Division, and Daniel Bryan, in the Senior Division, both of Elizabethtown Chapter.  The second Public Speaking Contest will be held in conjunction with the Rose Croix Class in Pittsburgh on March 8th.  Winner of the contests will advance to Regional Finals in Washington DC on April 26-27. Complete details on this contest are available at http://www.pademolay.org/calendar/

Pennsylvania DeMolay thanks the officers and members of the Valley of Reading AASR for their support of DeMolay through their sponsorship of the Patriots Class.
