January in Pennsylvania is usually marked by cold winds, layers of snow, and icy conditions. The weekend of January 15-17, however, was a far cry from those conditions! Not only was it a gorgeous weekend, the warmth felt by those attending the PA DeMolay Volleyball Tournament was shared by all!
Thirteen Chapters from all areas of the state pulled into Patton Campus in Elizabethtown ready to vie for the 1st Place Trophy in Volleyball. This tournament also stands out as it marks the first time that two Chapters have participated in years - Delaware Valley and Susquehanna.
The competition was hot and heavy, although good sportsmanship was always in effect. When all the bumps, sets, and spikes had finally come to an end it was Lorraine Chapter that clinched victory. Giving them a run for their money was Pilgrim Chapter, who came in second, and Friendship-Bray Chapter who took home third. Not to be outdone, one Chapter really shined as good sports and great competitors, and that was Susquehanna Chapter, who walked away with the Spirit Award.
The star of the tournament was Bro. Brandon Weston of Lorraine Chapter who walked away with Most Valuable Player. Helping the young men to succeed were coaches "Dad" Greg Deal, of Lorraine Chapter, and "Dad" Justin Brown, of Pilgrim Chapter, both named Most Valuable Coach.
Volleyball wasn't the only game in town, though! Water sports were also on the agenda. Many Chapters participated in the Water Basketball Tournament which was won by George Washington Chapter. A swim meet was also held, with all of the individual events being won by Bro. Joe Chubb from Pilgrim Chapter. The Relays were won by Pilgrim Chapter (Medley) and GW / Reading (Freestyle).
To round out the weekend, a bowling tournament was also held. Chapters were able to file the paperwork to participate in the DeMolay International Postal Bowling Tournament using their scores from this event. Taking home ten pin glory was Brother Cody Rosenbauer, who won not only the Individual Game prize, but also Individual Series. Topping the team charts was Lorraine with 1st place, Friendship-Bray with 2nd place, and George Washington with 3rd place. |
