Motion To Adjourn

The motion to Adjourn is the highest in precedence. No other motion may be considered or made once this motion has been made. If there is other business to be handled, the group would need to vote "no" on the motion to adjourn before being able to consider it. This motion is to be made when all business is concluded.

Here's how it works:

What to say: "I move that we adjourn"
May you interrupt the speaker? No, you must wait to be recognized.
Do you need a second? Yes.
Can the motion be debated? No, it goes directly to a vote.
Can the motion be amended? No.
What vote is needed to pass? A simple majority.
Can it be reconsidered? No.
How about an example?
PRES: "That seems to be all the business on our agenda."
MEM1: "I move that we adjourn."
PRES: "There is a motion to adjourn. Is there a second?"
MEM2: "I second the motion."
PRES: "All in favor?"
MEMS: "Aye!"
PRES: "Opposed?"
[Silence]

PRES: "The motion carries. We stand adjourned."

[Note: "Adjourning" does not dispense with the need for a regular ritual closing, in the case of a Chapter meeting ... it is more applicable to non-ritual meetings.]
