Motion to Postpone Discussion

This is similar to a motion to table, but it specifies a time when the matter will next be considered. Unlike the motion to table, this calls for the motion to come back to the group's consideration automatically, without another vote by the body. It can be used when the group is not ready to make a decision on a motion, but needs to do so by a certain time, or when a decision must be delayed until a certain event has happened or certain information has been recieved.

NOTE: Certain actions, like a bylaw amendment, must, by our rules, be HELD OVER until a later meeting, and may not be acted upon the first time they are introduced. Since this hold over is required by our rules, no motion to postpone is required.

Here's how it works:

What to say: "I move to postpone this discussion until..." or, "I move to postpone action on this motion until..."
May you interrupt the speaker? No, you must wait to be recognized.
Do you need a second? Yes.
Can the motion be debated? Yes.
Can the motion be amended? Yes, for example to choose a different time to consider it again.
What vote is needed to pass? Simple majority.
Can it be reconsidered? Yes.
How about an example?
COMMITTEE CHAIR: "I will be getting the final prices from the caterer on Friday."
MEM1: "Mr. Chairman, I don't think we should approve this without knowing the exact cost. I move to postpone discussion on this matter until our next stated meeting."
PRES: "There is a motion to postpone discussion on this motion until our next stated meeting. Is there a second?"
MEM2: "Second."
PRES: "The motion has been made and seconded. All in favor?"
MEMS: "Aye!"
PRES: "Opposed?"
[Silence]
PRES: "The 'Ayes' have it. We will consider the motion at our next stated meeting."
